My mantel has decor, but no light. Light’s are a much needed part of holiday decorating.

I would love to bring a little sparkle and cheer to my dark home, I don’t have a lot of windows in my home so some nice Christmas lights and candles and knick knacks from Pier Imports would brighten up my home and I could listen to Michael Buble’s Christmas CD while drinking a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks would just be the perfect ending to a special day ๐Ÿ™‚ Merry Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚

i could use something light and sparkly. all my Christmas stuff got damaged in a flood and don’t have the resources to replace anything. so I have nothing at all, so it would make a cheery happy time this Christmas season! ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks

Wow! What a sweet giveaway! My gratitude, in advance, for the nice package. It’d be SO very nice to receive some newer light products, for 2 reasons: I just moved across the country in September, purging lots of belongings prior to the move, & 2) the few that do remain w/ me are older, not LED-smart. I have 2 college daughters coming home for Christmas, AND whose bdays are just before & after Christmas respectively, so I’d probably gift some of the goodies to them. Blessings to all for a joyous Christmas! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I need to light up my Christmas decor because the more lights the better at Christmas! I don’t have any LED lights; most of mine I bought years ago. Thank you for a great giveaway.

When I saw the prizes for this contest, my eyes actually lit up (no pun intended!! It hasn’t been a good year for me. My Father passed away suddenly, earlier this year. In the past 2 months, I also lost 2 Aunts, a Cousin, and a Dear Friend. My heart isn’t into Christmas this year, even though it’s my favorite Holiday, and perhaps to have a chance to listen to Michael Buble, who is one of my favorites, singing in the background, while I’m putting up strings of lights in my otherwise decoration-barren place, would do so much to boost my spirits!! It would be a grest surprise for my Husband, too!! What a great Christmas gift!! Have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year!!

I would truly love to win all of these wonderful lights and gifts to bring some special Christmas to my youngest son and fiance who just rented their first house. Needless to say they have no Christmas decorations at all and I would love to “brighten” up their Christmas also.

I need to light up my Christmas cheer because when I got out my Christmas lights I discovered that somehow over the summer they got together and decided that only half of them would light up.

When my son was born 8 weeks early weighing 3lb 5oz he was put to bed on Christmas eve and we put all the decs and lights up that evening as he had a hernia op the day before and had to be kept in as he reacted badly to the anesthetic, It has been a long road from that Christmas morning and I would love to recreate the magic on his face again with this prize. xx

  36. Dawn says

I’m afraid that due to finances, we won’t be having much of a Christmas this year. Still going to decorate, though…and try to infuse a bit of cheer regardless. I don’t have many windows, and use a lot of candles and lamps. These would be a wonderful addition. Thank you for the opportunity and enjoy the holiday season!

Traveling out of state to visit my daughter, son-in-law and grandkids for Christmas – this would make a wonderful surprise – I would set them up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve for a spectacularly festive Christmas morning!

Do You Park Your Cross Stitch Thread? Try The Royal Roads Method

I have not done a lot of big cross stitch projects, but sometimes even with small projects it can be hard to decide exactly where to begin and how to work through the chart if you’re working with multiple colors. The general categories for the possible methods are known as cross country and parking.

Cross country means that you’re working one color at a time, moving around the chart (or the section of the chart you’re working on) until you’re done with that color. Parking means you’re working in a smaller section and doing all the colors in that area, “parking” the threads by leaving them attached to the canvas but out of the way while you finish each section.

Royal Rows is a specific way of parking named by Alison Royal, which is explored in detail on a post on Stitching Daily.

The idea is that you’re working one “tower” of stitches at a time (she uses a section of 10 stitches across by 20 down, but you can do whatever makes sense to you). You work all the stitches of a color at a time, starting at the top left and working your way down. When you’re done with a color you can park it where needed in the section below your current tower (known as the dungeon) or in the “east tower,” which is the section to the right.

There’s also a specific way of dealing with thread ends when you’re done with a color. This is a super simplified version (head to the blog post at Stitching Daily to get all the details) but the basic idea is that you’re working from left to right and top to bottom across the work, parking the threads in the next section when you’re done with them and systematically choosing which color to work with next.

The whole idea of parking is kind of overwhelming to me though I will admit that it makes a lot of sense. I guess I need to try it on a smallish big project and see how it goes. Do you use the parking method of cross stitch? I’d love to hear about it!
