Crochet Pattern Review: Geode Crochet Pattern by Crafty Intentions

Who knew rocks could be this fabulous? These crochet geodes are an absolute gem — literally and figuratively!

Okay, let me just say… I’ve fallen head over hook for this brilliantly fun Geode Crochet Pattern by Crafty Intentions. I mean, how often do you get to say you’re crocheting a sparkly rock? These little beauties are trending again, and once you dive into the pattern, you’ll totally understand why.

These geodes are playful, unexpected, and full of personality — the kind of project that makes people do a double take. I’ve bought the pattern, and while I haven’t finished one yet, the instructions are SO detailed and well thought-out that I already know it’s going to be a joy to make.

What Makes It Shine (pun absolutely intended)

The finished geodes have this layered, realistic look that mimics the natural striations of real crystal formations. But then you add the sparkle — either with glitter yarns, sequins, or beads — and bam, you’ve got a mini showpiece that’s both nerdy and glam. These are brilliant as desk buddies, stocking stuffers, or as part of a crystal-themed gift set.

They’re also wonderfully stash-busting — perfect for all those little yarn bits you’ve been saving because they’re too pretty to throw away.

Crafty Intentions is known for her highly detailed, photo-rich patterns, and this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s written clearly with lots of helpful visuals and breaks the process down step by step, including how to shape the outer layers and create the sparkly centers.

There are also multiple style options so you can mix it up: slice-style geodes, whole geodes, or even little “broken” ones that show off the sparkly center like a surprise!

I’d place this at an intermediate level, just because it involves shaping and some finer finishing techniques — but if you’ve made amigurumi before, you’ll be right at home here. It’s a great pattern to challenge your skills just enough, without being frustrating.
