Treasury on Etsy of the Cutest Glass Animal Beads…

August 14, 2009 by Cathi Milligan

il_430xN.83333335I am the biggest fan of etsy. Disclaimer…I sell on etsy. I love it because it’s a fabulous forum for handmade artists to sell their wares. You create your own store that you stock and sell out of. If you haven’t gone there you need to, as a buyer or seller.il_430xN.84566111

One of the cool things you can do on etsy is put together treasuries of your favorite items. A treasury is a section on the web site that profiles the favorite items of the different sellers. There can be anywhere from 333-600+ treasuries at any given time. New treasuries can’t be added until the list drops below 333. I just put one together that profiles glass bead makers (my people). All cute critters. Little animal beads made of glass that made me smile. They made me laugh. They made me want to get on the torch. Let me know what you think of them. I’ve posted a few of them here.il_430xN.77104807

The Journey Hat – Where Wild Horses and Wool Meet – Knitting Pattern

I honestly fell in love with this Journey Hat the moment I saw those wild horses galloping across it—it just spoke to something in me. As someone who knits a lot (and I mean a lot), this pattern was a refreshing change of pace. It’s beautifully designed and incredibly clear to follow. You can tell it’s been thoughtfully written.

I used a mix of natural wool tones with a soft charcoal for the horse silhouette, and the final result? Magical. The colorwork is rhythmic and satisfying once you find your groove. I wouldn’t call it beginner-easy, but if you’ve done some stranded knitting before, you’ll be absolutely fine—and the payoff is so worth it.

It knit up quicker than I expected, and the finished hat has a lovely, sturdy-yet-soft feel. It made a gorgeous gift for my horse-loving teen (though I’m secretly making another for myself!).

If you’re after a meaningful, eye-catching knit that’s a little different from your usual fair isle, this is the one. Highly recommend for any horse lover out there. Makes a great gift too and dare I say Christmas is not that far away.
