Things To Do For Halloween 2020

September 10, 2020 by Shellie Wilson

Halloween is going to look a little different this year for many trick or treaters but this article will give you some suggestions to making sure your Halloween or Quaran-ta-ween is just as much fun. Lots of people are asking if Halloween will be cancelled this year and each state is different, but you can’t cancel Halloween celebrations within your own home, so we have given you some great ideas below of how to celebrate Halloween this year and still make it fun for the kids.

Obviously you will need to take your area’s restrictions into consideration when planning anything but here are some generalized ideas of what to do for Halloween 2020 during this apocalyptic COVID year.

To be honest, hasn’t it been like Halloween all year? Everyones wearing masks, people going crazy and death has literally been lining the streets. I can guarantee you that the most popular Halloween costume for 2020 is going to be the Plague mask.

If you are staying home for Halloween:

Set up a candy graveyard in your back yard…

… and hide the candy around the yard, much like an Easter egg hunt but a Halloween egg hunt. Your own children can hunt around the yard. If this sounds too complicated as you don’t want to make or buy Halloween tombstones then move the hunt inside. Turn off all the lights in the house, give the kids a torch and send them on their way to find some scary dark spooky treats. If you are not into giving candy then check out these Halloween Squishmallows, I am assured by my children that these are the and I quote “coolest thing ever”. Squishmallows are far more expensive than packets of sugar but might be suitable for older children who like to collect trinkets.

You could use glow sticks to help the little ones find the candy if it’s a little too dark. Add some scary stories before you start and the bigger kids are sure to be jumping and screaming.

Watch scary movies and eat Popcorn

Sure it seems simple enough but sitting on the couch scaring yourselves is a great way to have fun, make sure you are loaded up with snacks and maybe set up a few pranks too to have some jumps during the night. Spiders on the toilet break always work well.

Scary treats in the kitchen?

Maybe scary movies are not your thing, then how about some scary treats from the kitchen. Spend the evening making cookies or cupcakes and sit down and enjoy them as a family. Maybe you can Zoom call some friends and have a cookoff or tell each other stories of ghosts or ghouls.

Heading out for Halloween:

Well, rule number one is going to be a mask right? A great time to dress up as a crazy surgeon or a Nurse of death. Plastic costume masks can be used to cover up medical grade face masks to keep you safe.

Don’t knock on doors. Instead call out for candy and have them place it in the bag, go home and clean the candy or wear gloves whilst you unwrap it. Obviously you don’t need to give or accept candy, instead walk the streets and people watch, show off your costume. The perfect way to have a ZERO contact Halloween.

Have everyone in the street walk around like a fashion parade.

Need to go further afield to see friends and family? Stick to the car and shout out as you drive by in your car.

Don’t feel like dressing up cause you have been wearing a mask all year? How about dressing up your front porch instead, people can walk or drive by and admire the view with zero contact.

How about a backyard fire or cookoff? Grab a witches pot and cook up some witch stew for dinner, a fun outside activity and it feeds the kids too.

So this year it is all about the Talking interactive Jack o Lantern. Have you seen it? What do you think? A great addition to the Halloween themed porch? My kids talk a lot, so I am not sure I need a talking Jack o Lantern too.
