According to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), approximately 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies, with one in 13 children under 18 affected. Between 1997 and 2011, there was a 50% increase in food allergies.
So what has that got to do with Halloween? Simple! It is to do with raising awareness of food allergies and promoting inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season!
So if you participate in this project, you are letting everyone know that you have some non food treats. If your kids who have allergies see a Teal pumpkin while out trick or treating, they know that they can visit that house for non food treats.
You can take the pledge as well:
Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE)’s Teal Pumpkin Project is a worldwide movement to create a safer, happier Halloween for all kids. As they say:
Every child should be able to experience the joy and tradition of trick-or-treating on Halloween. Help make this possible.
