Nothing is too much trouble at the Brisbane, Marriott. We were test driving their new package for Jan 2012 – the fun family package. And boy, did we test them.
Can we get an extra interconnecting room to accommodate grandparents? Of course, no problem.
Can we get valet car parking? Of course! (Included in the price for one car – $40 otherwise) .
Oops. We forgot some personal items in the car. Can we go to the car and retrieve them? Of course.
Oops, our clumsy kids messed up the decorations in the hotel restaurant. Not a problem. Fixed easily.
Can you find me a vase for the big bouquet of flowers that I just bought for my wife? Of course, here it is!
Can you find us some extra soft pillows? Yes of course, here they are!
Can our kids draw on the bathroom walls with porcelain markers? Yes, of course. As long as the kids are occupied!
We want to have a nice relaxing dinner somewhere nearby. We have several recommendations for you!
Can we walk there? Of course, but it is raining, so either take these umbrellas, or we can call a taxi for you.
We even threw in a complaint. Our kids were given some milk that was way past its due date. Handled efficiently by the professional staff with several apologies.
The staff are the most friendly ones that you will find anywhere. They carry the Marriott badge with pride. We spoke to several staff members (who didn’t know that we were reviewing the hotel) and they all took immense pride in being part of the Marriott family. And you know, once you have happy staff, you have happy customers.
From the Valet, to the Concierge, from the check in reception staff to the cleaning lady, everyone was efficient, professional and smiling.
The rooms we were in faced the Brisbane city. If possible, ask for a river view room as you can get gorgeous views of the boardwalk and see the Brisbane river in all its glory. Depending on which side of the hotel you are in, you may even get to see the Story Bridge.
The rooms themselves were clean and we had the options of two double beds and one king sized bed in our two rooms. Being interconnected made it quite easy for us to hand the kids to the grandparents when we had had enough.
The meals are at the newly launched Motion Bar and Grill. The breakfast buffet is slightly different from the normal buffet’s. There is no chef visible to order your egg choices – instead you let it know to the waiters what you like and they bring it in from the kitchen. The rest of the stuff is setup in the normal buffet area. The eggs benedict were very nice, but the muffin breads were stale. Between the six of us, we tried almost all the menu items, and most of these items were well suited to the hotels reputation.
All in all, we would definately recommend the Marriott Brisbane if you are in the city or coming from overseas. The hotel is situated right next to the Story Bridge hotel on the Brisbane river, and is therefore, in the best possible location with easy access to everything the city has to offer. While staying here, make sure to go on the riverside boardwalk to the Eagle Street Pier to grab a lunch/dinner in one of the nice restaurants and maybe watch a show at Southbank Cultural Precinct. Marriott has the family fun package perfectly suite for this purpose.
