Review: Mark Cosmetics

June 27, 2011 by Shellie Wilson

Any girl, prissy or not, loves to try on new makeup and see what it looks/feels like. So imagine my delight when I opened my box of goodies that Mark Cosmetics had sent me to review from their meetmark.com beauty store.

Let’s start with the

Gloss Gorgeous Stay on lip stain – $10.00  – I must admit it took me a while to figure out how to get the stain to actually come out but that might have been more about me than the lip gloss 🙂 It was light and left my lips feeling soft, but the stain did not last through lunch and had to be reapplied after eating.

Hook Up waterproof Mascara – $6.00 with free connector which had attached a sample of the Hook Up Eye Liner $6.00

The hook up system is great, allowing you to connect your favorite  products for easy to find purse use-ability. I have never used liquid eyeliner so this wasn’t the best product for me to be trying. At no fault to the product it ended up more IN my eye than on it.  Having said that apart from a little stinging I was not blinded and my eyes were not even red after 2 mins so that’s a product plus! 🙂

Hook Up Lip Gloss- $6.00 – I really liked how light this felt – not sticky at all. Again this can connect to the mascara making it perfect for travel or purse use-ability.

Glowdacious Illuminating powder $12.00- I really liked this, it allowed me to dust dark or light depending on my mood and I look forward to using this again in summer when a warm glow is a must.

**REVIEW OVERVIEW**

Overall the products were great! The quantities on the mascara and lip liners seemed a little low at first but for the price (which I found out after using) was more than acceptable. I would purchase these products again and would highly recommend them for teenagers where budget is an issue or for those women who like to have a lot of variety in their makeup drawer as with Mark cosmetics you can afford to have a little of everything.

I did get a few more products but I have not reviewed them as yet so stay tuned for more.

I too am also that you gave a favorable review of the mark. products…and the neat thing is if you can not find a mark. rep you can order from your Avon rep or on line at Avon.com. They are a great product for that young gal that wants to wear makeup, but you as the parent do not want her to look like she has the makeup on…

Lesson Plans – Moss and Lichen Unit Study

I guess moss and lichen are more things that you see in the spring than in the summer, but there are some deep shady parts of our yard that stay mossy all year, and summer is a fine time to look for plants that like to live in shady, wet areas.

Raising Up Wild Things has a really pretty set of printables to use for a moss and lichen unit study.

And just in case you’re like me and don’t really know the difference, moss is a plant that grows in damp wooded areas, while lichen is a combination of fungus and algae that live together. Lichen can live in different environments but are often found in places where you would find moss, too.

The printable includes drawings of some common moss such as sphagnum moss and wood moss, as well as common lichen shapes (crusty, leafy and shrubby). There are good sized images you can print out and laminate to use to compare to specimens you find when you are exploring nature.

There’s also a forest floor coloring page and a printable journaling page where kids can write or draw their observations and there are a few questions older kids can answer.

You can use these when you go on a walk in the woods (or the back yard) to talk about what you are seeing, or combine them with other resources to talk about things that live in the forest. Check them out at Raising Up Wild Things.

This PDF from the Morton Arboretum has a bunch of pictures of different kinds of moss and where to find them, which could also be helpful in your studies. Learn more about lichen, including what they are and what they are not, in this article from the US Forest Service.
