Review – Epson Labelworks Printable Ribbon Kit

January 22, 2015 by Shellie Wilson

epson-printable-ribbon-kit

I was so excited to get this little gem to review. Seriously who doesn’t have a use for a Epson Printable Ribbon Machine? I can think of 100’s of uses including :

Gift wrapping  – Kind of obvious but still worthy of a mention especially with Valentine’s Day coming up. We (my 7 year old and I)  created some ribbons that say “From the Goyal Family” which I think are perfect for wrapping gifts and I can’t wait to use them at Christmas time and Easter. If I was the romantic type I would create little ribbons of love and place them all over the house for Valentine’s Day for my husband to discover. I plan to make little love notes for my kids (my true loves) and tie them around the wrists for Valentine’s day also.

Hair Ribbons – Perfect for back to school creations and of course no other snotty nose child can steal the ones we made with her name printed ALL over them. (see picture above)

Bookmarks – Nothing says HOLD MY PAGE like a printed ribbon that says HOLD MY PAGE!

Party Decorations  – Celebrate in style with handmade thank you ribbons and written messages.

The machine is easy to setup: you literally pop the batteries and cartridge in and you are ready to print. The manual is so easy to follow that my 7 year old created her own designs (including the bookmark above) You can add borders, symbols and so much more.  Check out the website for more of the technical details.

RRP $69.95 and comes with two ribbon cartridges. Replacement Ribbon cartridges are $19.99 that come with 16 feet or 5 metres of Ribbon.

Here are some examples of them being used for parties , weddings and baby showers.  Love this product!

I have one of those too! It’s awesome!

Krampus Sweater Knitting Pattern

Santa and Saint Nicholas generally get all the good press, but Central European kids know you don’t want to just be good so you get presents from St. Nicholas; you also want to avoid the ire of Krampus. (He’s depicted as a human-like figure with horns and usually hairy or furry who gives birch rods instead of gifts to kids who are bad.)

If you’re the type to embrace the naughty side (or you just want to scare the children into good behavior over the holidays), maybe you’ll want to knit a Krampus sweater.

This one, from Sofie Amalie Laulund, is a top down circular yoke sweater with Krampus faces at the top and cavorting Krampuses further down the body, with some traditional Scandinavian snowflakes thrown in for fun.

Because of the large motifs there’s not a lot of room for adjusting the fit, but it is available in five sizes (the Ravelry page doesn’t say what the sizing is, and it says its worked with no ease but the photo looks like the sweater has a bit of positive ease, so if you decide to make this one just check the measurements and your own comfort level for ease when picking a size).

It also uses five colors, but there’s very little red and brown so you can probably use scrap yarn for those parts. It calls for DK weight yarn. You’ll want a background color that helps the creatures stand out. You could also work the snowflake bands in different colors if you want to mix it up.

The pattern is available in both English and Danish, and you can find it on Ravelry. This is the designer’s first pattern, which kudos to them because it’s such an ambitious (and fun!) project I’m happy to add to my collection of whimsy-filled knits.
