Non-quilting design inspiration

August 7, 2009 by Scarlett Burroughs

_symmetryInspiration is all around us. Becky of Piece ‘O Cake blog gets it. She snapped this photo of the front of the Huisache Grill in New Braunfels, Texas. Of the doors painted differently, she said, When you are designing a quilt it helps to remember that unexpected touches stand out and draw the eye. Go here to read the entire post, where she talks about symmetry, or lack thereof.

One of my favorite non-quilting sources of inspiration is Apartment Therapy online. Check out The Best of Hex, showing colorful hexagon tiles under a claw foot bathtub – Kathryn Russell Photograpy.

I also love House Tour: Amy’s Vintage-Modern Nest; she uses color really well and knows how to mix old and new. You can see more of Amy at Venus Zine: Emerging Creativity, where she is founder and editor.

The next time you take a real or virtual trip, be on the lookout for great design.
