New needlepoint e-book

September 22, 2009 by Denise Felton

Please excuse my absence the past couple of days. My back is acting up and won’t let me sit at the computer for long. But I just had to pop in to tell you this:

janetJanet Perry has just released a new e-book, Heart Sampler. Janet says,

Looking for a way to learn some new stitches and to use up threads from your stash?…The design is based on a classic quilt block. Working from an overdyed thread (I used silks), pick additional threads in those colors. Then mix and match the stitches for your own unique design…Each stitch is diagrammed and the ones that work best for the triangular blocks are noted.

What a great idea! The PDF book is only US $3.00. Go to Janet’s post to get the details.

How to Make Faux Postage Travel Cards

How to Make Faux Postage Travel Cards

Yana used products from Waffle Flower to create an amazing collection of travel cards with trendy faux postage styles. Starting with white cardstock and a stencil that has different square and rectangle openings she used bright and bold ink pad colors and ink blended the background sections. Next using black ink she stamped the silhouette images of tropical trees, birds, boats and beachy designs along with faux cancellation marks and postage prices. Next she used coordinating dies to cut the postage edges, notice how some stamp sheets were kept together while others she tore apart.

On some cards she also made them look like tiny envelopes and also included tiny sentiment strips or stamped phrases.

She sharing a video tutorial on how to create these trendy travel postage card designs over on the Yana Smakula blog.
