Like I’ve said before, I think self portraits are a great way to start off a new school year. They help the students get to know each other, break the ice, let the teacher know where the students are somewhat academically (writing, etc) and maybe even help the teacher learn the students’ names!
Deep Space Sparkle has a fabulous lesson plan and downloadable PDF booklet for this self portrait project. It is geared toward kindergarten, but would be great at any age. You could have older students add in words that describe themselves or have them create art that represents their interests on the same page. So many possibilities!!
