Lace Candle Holder

July 15, 2014 by Shellie Wilson

DIY-candle-holders-with-doilie

This candle holder is delicate and romantic at the same time. It is created using wall paper paste and a lace doily. It would be great if you could up-cycle some of Grandma’s old doily’s into something like this. Full Doily Candle Holder tutorial can be found here at Theexcitedbride.com. These would also be lovely to give guests as a take home favor.

Lace doilies are beautiful and intricate, and they can add a touch of romance and nostalgia to any décor. But what do you do with them when they start to show wear and tear? Instead of throwing them away, why not repurpose them into something beautiful and functional? Theexcitedbride.com has a wonderful tutorial on how to turn your old doilies into delicate and romantic candle holders using wallpaper paste.

To get started, you’ll need a few basic supplies: a lace doily, wallpaper paste, a balloon, and a few other items you probably already have on hand. The process is fairly simple and straightforward, but it does require a bit of patience and attention to detail.

First, blow up your balloon to the size you want your finished candle holder to be. Then, mix your wallpaper paste according to the instructions on the package. Dip your doily into the paste and carefully place it over the balloon. Smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles, and make sure the edges are well-secured to the balloon.

Once the doily is in place, let it dry completely. This may take several hours, depending on the humidity and temperature in your workspace. Be patient and resist the temptation to rush the drying process, as this can cause the doily to crack or warp.

When the doily is completely dry, gently pop the balloon and remove it from the inside of the candle holder. You should be left with a delicate and beautiful lace structure that is perfect for holding a votive candle or other small candle. Place a candle inside and enjoy the soft, romantic glow it casts on the surrounding area.

These candle holders would make a wonderful addition to any room or event décor. They can be made in a variety of sizes and styles to suit your personal tastes and needs. And, as an added bonus, they are a great way to upcycle old doilies and other lace items that might otherwise end up in the trash. So next time you come across a beautiful doily that is no longer being used, don’t toss it out – give it new life as a beautiful and functional candle holder.

Recycled Paper Cylinder Face Art – A Colorful Win for All Ages

I recently stumbled across this super creative project on Instructables – “Face With Recycled Paper Cylinders” – and I had to share it with you all because it’s just the kind of craft that checks all my favorite boxes: recycled materials, hands-on creativity, and fun for literally any age.

The idea is simple but genius—roll strips of recycled paper (think junk mail, old magazines, leftover printer paper) into cylinders, then arrange and glue them to form a unique abstract face. You can make it funky, realistic, Picasso-inspired—whatever your mood or style dictates!

What I really love is the blend of eco-conscious crafting with true artistic expression. This isn’t just another kids’ project—it’s something you could easily do with a group of little ones, a classroom full of teens, or even as an adult art therapy or weekend wind-down activity. It’s super relaxing and surprisingly satisfying seeing all those paper rolls come together to form something new and expressive.

The tutorial itself is easy to follow, with plenty of visuals to guide you along the way. You don’t need any fancy materials—just glue, paper, scissors, and a board or piece of cardboard to serve as your canvas.

I also appreciate how this project leaves so much room for personalization. Want to make it into a full face? Go for it. Prefer to focus on a single eye or mouth? Totally works. You can even play with color schemes by choosing papers with a certain palette, or painting over them once they’re rolled.

In short: this is a total keeper for anyone who loves crafting with purpose. It’s the kind of project that sparks creativity while gently reinforcing the idea that beautiful things can come from what we usually throw away.

Highly recommend giving it a go—solo or with a group. And if you try it, tag me or drop a pic—I’d love to see your recycled masterpiece!
