Hemp Oil in Candles…Why Not?

October 27, 2007 by SandraW

hemp candles

It’s no secret that the use of hemp has been gaining popularity in recent years, with its versatility and eco-friendliness being among the top reasons for its widespread adoption.

From clothing and paper to building materials and food products, hemp is being incorporated into a wide range of consumer goods. However, one of the latest trends in the use of hemp is in candles, and the Bar Harbor Hemporium is at the forefront of this movement.

Their unique beeswax candles, infused with hemp seed oil, offer a natural alternative to traditional paraffin candles that are derived from petroleum. The hemp seed oil not only adds an earthy scent to the candles, but it also gives them a natural green tint that adds to their appeal.

By using these candles, consumers can not only enjoy the ambiance of candlelight but also feel good about their choice to use a product that is both sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Whether you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint or simply enjoy the natural beauty of hemp, the Bar Harbor Hemporium’s hemp seed oil candles offer an excellent option for anyone looking for an alternative to traditional candles. With their commitment to quality and sustainability, you can trust that you are getting a product that is both safe and eco-friendly.

So, the next time you light a candle, consider making the switch to a hemp-infused candle and start enjoying the many benefits of going green naturally.

Bar Harbor Hemporium sells beeswax candles with hemp seed oil. You’ll be going green naturally with these as they have a natural green tint to them from the hemp oil.

Hemp oil can be used in candles and can provide some benefits, including a natural green tint and a unique earthy scent. However, it is important to note that while hemp oil may have some medicinal properties, such as reducing inflammation, it is not typically used for medicinal purposes in candles.

To make hemp oil candles, you will need the following materials:

Beeswax or soy wax
Hemp oil
Candle wicks
A double boiler or a heat-safe container and a saucepan
A thermometer
Fragrance oils (optional)
Here are the steps to make hemp oil candles:

Melt the wax in a double boiler or heat-safe container placed in a saucepan of boiling water. Be sure to monitor the temperature and keep it below the wax’s melting point (typically between 145 and 175 degrees Fahrenheit).

Once the wax is melted, add hemp oil to the mixture. The amount of hemp oil you use will depend on your desired scent and color. Start with a small amount, such as a tablespoon per pound of wax, and adjust as needed.

Add any fragrance oils at this point, if desired. Mix well.

Insert a wick into the center of each candle container and hold it in place with a wick holder or a pencil.

Slowly pour the melted wax mixture into the candle container, being careful not to disturb the wick.

Allow the candles to cool completely and trim the wick to about ¼ inch.

Your hemp oil candles are now ready to use!

While hemp oil candles may not have medicinal effects, they can offer a natural alternative to traditional candles and provide a unique, earthy scent. Be sure to follow safety guidelines when working with hot wax and always monitor the temperature carefully.
