I would love this book to help me grow and learn my skills. I’ve only started crochet recently after a motorbike accident had me stuck in house & in a neck brace for a long time. I couldn’t move much so I decide crochet would be the best thing to try and learn as I only have to use my hands & I needed something to occupy my mind. I have formed a well loved addiction and am
Now ready to learn more than the granny stitch. Also learning how to fix up mistakes would be handy. My daughter now wants me to teach her the basics of crochet, so this book would be a god send.

At 75, there’s not many stitches I have not tried but having all these options in one place is exciting. Also, our charity crafting group loves taking a particular stitch or motif or technique, and trying it with scarves and hats for our local homeless, or shawls/wraps and lapghans for our local in hospice, and so on – it will be well-used.

I lost my Mom a few months ago. SHe has always had a love of crocheting. She made each of her grandchildren a crocheted blanket, plus she made outfits for them as well as for us when we were younger. SHe even made me a maternity shirt πŸ™‚ Toilet paper roll covers, etc. I have developed a love for crocheting in the past few months. It makes me feel closer to her. But I never learned the stitches and ways to crochet. Now I am learning and making fun crafts for my kids. I am working towards making larger projects some day. Hopefully I will get good enough to make my grandchildren blankets (although mine are not old enough yet lol). I would love to have this book to help me as I learn and make new projects. Hi all, I live up in the frozen tundra, according to my Mom, LOL Actually, I live in Vermont and it does get pretty cold up here. I love doing projects that I know will keep others warm. I’ve done pretty well at making quilts although, nothing fancy!! I was shown how to crochet by a dear friend, many years ago. The only problem is, well…..I can only do one stitch. Yep, I make scarves for winter, that’s it, the extent of my experience. It sure would be nice to know how to make the hat and mittens to match! I would so love to learn how to crochet a sweater for each of my grandkids! Heck, I’d love to crochet a sweater for me!!

Well, this is my true story and I’m stickin to it! I’d love to win these wonderful books. If I got good at crocheting, I could even teach my grand daughters! Thanks for all the fantastic posts, every day. I always look forward to reading about new projects.

So, with that, May the most deserving person win ????

This would be an amazing prize to win. Just learning how to crochet my mom was going to help teach me but recently passed away, I’ve been watching and re watching YouTube videos trying to get as good as my mom so I can finish some of her projects she left unfinished. I’m a knit-aholic it would be great if I could be amazing at crochet too

When I was in high school and college, I crocheted a lot of granny square blankets. When I recently picked up crochet again I realized how much I need to learn – crochet is more than granny squares! This book would be a great resource to help me expand my skills.

My mother taught me the basic stitches when I was child. I have since retired and have developed some health issues that have slowed me down. I have re-taught myself those same basics and found I really enjoy crocheting. I would love to learn more stitches and be able to do something other than granny squares.

My grandmother used to make crocheted jewelry & I’m trying to learn so I have part of her with me, we lost her in 2003. I know how to do the chainstitch, but have trouble remembering the rest & because I was so little when she made the jewelry, she thought I was too young then. I always hoped she’d teach me when I got older, but then she had to stop, it was hard on her vision & her hands. I’m almost 42 now, around the age she’d started making her jewelry & I miss her.

Make Your Knitting Machine Scarves Better

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve shared any patterns for our circular knitting machine users. I know these devices aren’t for everyone but even though I much prefer knitting by hand, it is kind of fun to crank things out on these machines.

One of the most common early projects for a circular knitting machine is a scarf. Which makes sense, because it’s just one long tube and you can make it as long as you like.

One problem that comes from knitting scarves on the circular knitting machine, though, is that it can be hard to know how to finish the ends of the tube so that it looks like a finished scarf and not a tube of knitting.

If you’re not a knitter or crocheter, the most basic way to finish a circular knitting machine scarf is just by cinching up the ends and maybe adding a pompom to each end to cover up any hole that might still be visible at the end.

But if you have a little knitting or crochet skill or are willing to learn, there are a lot of different options for closing up the ends of a scarf. And this would also be true if you hand knit a tube scarf!

I recently wrote a post over at Our Daily Craft that includes five different ways to close up the ends of a tube scarf:

  • the simple cinching method mentioned above
  • sewing the stitches together
  • three needle bind off
  • grafting
  • crochet bind off

Grafting is my favorite because I feel like it gives the cleanest, closest to a seamless look. If you’re a knitter you may already know how to do it but even if you don’t it’s not that hard to learn.

Do you knit tube scarves by hand or machine? I’d love to know how you like to finish them!
