Giveaway: 2 Silhouette Portraits with PixScan Mats

October 20, 2014 by Vikram Goyal

The winners of this giveaway are Meari and Cassie. Congratulations! We have sent you both an email.

silhouette-giveaway

Christmas, indeed has come in early this year for 2 of our loyal CraftGossip readers!

We are giving away, not 1, but 2, Silhouette Portraits this year. And each winner also gets the new and amazing PixScan Mat.

What can PixScan Mat do along with your Portrait? What can’t it do?

It gives you the ability to capture an image using a scanner or camera (including smartphones and tablets) and then import that image directly into the Silhouette Studio® software in order to cut precisely around any printed design.

PixScan™ is ideal for:

  • Turning hand-drawn sketches and lettering into cut jobs
  • Digitizing patterns
  • Adding custom-cut borders and frames to professionally printed invitations
  • Replicating a pattern at its original size
  • Saving material and time using the Nesting feature to place images to be cut within specially shapped materials
  • Incorporating printed images or patterns into your custom craft projects
  • Turning photos and other printed clippings into cut or sketch files
  • Cutting precisely around already existing printed or stamped images

And we have two Silhouette Portraits along with the PixScan Mat to giveaway. Thanks to Silhouette America!

How to win:

You get three entries:

1. You must leave a comment here telling us why you want this to be your early Christmas present.

2. (Optional) Post on our Facebook page a comment saying “I want to win the Silhouette Portrait from @CraftGossip @SilhouetteAmerica #SilhouetteRocks”.

3. (Optional) Sign up to our daily DIY newsletter.

Rules:

1. US/Canada residents only (sorry to the rest of the world).

2. Void where prohibited.

3. Ends Oct 31st. Winners drawn on Nov 1st.

4. Winners will be contacted by email and must respond with their mailing details within 3 working days otherwise we will pick new winners.

5. Winners must allow 4-6 weeks for the delivery of the prize direct from Silhouette America.

Good Luck Everyone!

I would love to win a Silhouette Portrait before the holidays so I can, not only, create beautiful paper ornaments for our tree this year, but also extend a golden handshake to my longtime companion, Exacto Blade. I’m sure, Exacto will be super thankful for a long overdue vacation. (Honestly he’s getting a little dull, a little rusty, and should have gone into retirement years ago…) 😉

My son loves to help me make things for their apartment. Both young men would be so excited to be able to scan the oath and logo for their apartment. Their joy would be unboundless, and I know that’s not a word, but it truly describes how they would feel. My present would be the joy on their faces when we put the graphics on their walls. Make Your Knitting Machine Scarves Better

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve shared any patterns for our circular knitting machine users. I know these devices aren’t for everyone but even though I much prefer knitting by hand, it is kind of fun to crank things out on these machines.

One of the most common early projects for a circular knitting machine is a scarf. Which makes sense, because it’s just one long tube and you can make it as long as you like.

One problem that comes from knitting scarves on the circular knitting machine, though, is that it can be hard to know how to finish the ends of the tube so that it looks like a finished scarf and not a tube of knitting.

If you’re not a knitter or crocheter, the most basic way to finish a circular knitting machine scarf is just by cinching up the ends and maybe adding a pompom to each end to cover up any hole that might still be visible at the end.

But if you have a little knitting or crochet skill or are willing to learn, there are a lot of different options for closing up the ends of a scarf. And this would also be true if you hand knit a tube scarf!

I recently wrote a post over at Our Daily Craft that includes five different ways to close up the ends of a tube scarf:

  • the simple cinching method mentioned above
  • sewing the stitches together
  • three needle bind off
  • grafting
  • crochet bind off

Grafting is my favorite because I feel like it gives the cleanest, closest to a seamless look. If you’re a knitter you may already know how to do it but even if you don’t it’s not that hard to learn.

Do you knit tube scarves by hand or machine? I’d love to know how you like to finish them!
