I found this interesting article and would like to share it with you. It is about Melina Raissnia and how she became interested in Iranian felted rugs. Melina offers us a little history about the master rug felters in Iran. She says “In 1999 my husband, Bamdad Raissnia, brought me a felt rug, or namad as it is called in Farsi, upon his return from his first trip to Iran since the revolution. It was a small oval with a linear floral motif, and I fell in love with it instantly. It seemed humble and utilitarian, but charming nonetheless. It sparked a fascination and determination to go to Iran in search of the people who made them.” To read more about these rug makers along with some interesting photographs on their techniques, go to Felt Rugs from Iran.
