Easy Sleeveless Top – Free Crochet Pattern

August 7, 2025 by Shellie Wilson

When it says “easy,” it means easy — and that’s exactly what makes it so good.

If there’s one thing I love in a summer project, it’s simplicity with style — and the Easy Sleeveless Top from Lion Brand delivers both in spades. I’ve seen it making the rounds again lately (and rightly so!), and it reminded me just how lovely it is to work up a garment that’s quick, wearable, and doesn’t ask you to do mental gymnastics.

Why We’re Hooked (Again)

This top is that perfect throw-on-and-go piece — light, breathable, and just structured enough to feel polished without feeling stiff. It’s worked in two identical panels (front and back) and then seamed at the sides and shoulders. That’s it. No sleeves. No shaping drama. Just good old straightforward crochet.

It has a lovely boat neckline and a slightly boxy shape that works on all body types. Honestly, it gives off that “effortless French summer” energy — especially in soft neutrals or coastal blues.

This pattern is ideal for confident beginners — if you can chain, single crochet, and double crochet, you’re set. It’s also a fantastic “first garment” project if you’ve been wanting to dip your toes into wearables without diving straight into sleeves, bust darts, and blocking nightmares.

And for seasoned crocheters? It’s the perfect palette cleanser — a relaxing project to enjoy while catching up on your favourite show or audiobook.

Lion Brand recommends their 24/7 Cotton, which is a mercerized cotton that gives this top a crisp, clean look and beautiful stitch definition. It’s machine washable and holds its shape really well — which means no saggy hems or sad necklines after a few wears.

You could absolutely swap in a soft bamboo blend or linen yarn if you want more drape or a slightly dressier finish.

What I really love is how versatile this top is. Pair it with linen pants for the market, layer it under a cardi in spring, or toss it over your swimmers on holiday. It’s one of those pieces that feels like it belongs in every season — and in every colour.

Printable Cross Stitch Sheets Make it Easy to Cross Stitch on Clothes

Lately I have been feeling like all of my clothes are looking a little worn or feeling a little tired. I don’t want to buy new clothes, though, so there’s been a lot of mending, altering and adding special touches to things that otherwise might get overlooked or not worn at all.

As an example, not too long ago I added a little bit of embroidery to a T-shirt, which was a lot of fun to do and made me start eyeing all my solid-colored garments and wondering how they might look with some stitching added.

Of course you can cross stitch on garments, too, whether T-shirts or woven tops, skirts, pants and more. But it can be tricky to transfer cross stitch designs to your garment to make stitching easier.

Much like with embroidery, it’s great to use a water soluble stabilizer to keep your fabric in place while you stitch and to transfer your design (or your cross stitch grid at least) while you’re stitching. Then you just wash away the stabilizer when you’re done and it will look like the stitching has always been there.

Ashley General Handmade uses Sulky Stick ‘n Stitch, which is a product I use, too. It’s easy to use and washes away cleanly.

To make it even easier, she designed some printable cross stitch grids at different counts that you can print out to draw your own cross stitch designs, but you can also print the grid right on the Sulky, so you can stitch on top of squares and then remove them when you’re done.

Brilliant, right?

She has pages as big as 8 count and all the way down to 20 (remember: the bigger the number the smaller the stitches will be) that you can download and print to make your own designs and also use to make stitching on clothing easier. I’m definitely going to try this the next time I want to cross stitch on fabric!

You can grab her printables over at Ashley General Handmade.
