DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Him

January 21, 2019 by Vikram Goyal

Though Valentine’s Day may be considered by some to be a cheap holiday invented by greeting card companies, there are plenty of reasons to make it a special day for you and your fella. Maybe you’ve been together long enough to warrant a “special” date, but not long enough to have an anniversary. Maybe you were both working on your anniversary or didn’t have enough spare money to do anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps you are both so busy that you need any excuse to have a real date night. Whatever the reason, it is easy to make Valentine’s Day a memorable and romantic day for both of you without breaking the bank on an expensive store-bought gift. Check out these ideas for DIY Valentine’s Day gifts that any man is sure to love!

Skip the chocolates – pass the whiskey!

While men may enjoy the contents of a heart-shaped box of chocolates as much as the next guy, they are an admittedly “girly” gift. Surprise him by taking out the chocolates (which can either serve as a shared dessert or a treat just for you) and replacing them with miniature bottles of his favorite spirits. Throw in a couple of decorative shot glasses if you want to share!

52 reasons to love

Some of the best gifts are the ones we can carry around with us, taking them out when we need a reminder that we’re loved. Create just such a gift by purchasing a basic deck of cards, then write something you love about your significant other on every card. If you wish, you can even turn them into a game by hiding them throughout the house, his car, and his belongings! With a small hole punched in them and some string, they can also double as a great decoration for the night.†

Mug shots

If he’s a caffeine addict, it’s easy to personalize mugs from the Dollar Store! Just purchase a plain white mug, then draw and write on it with a Sharpie. Bake it in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes, and the writing will become permanent! Fill the mug with some of his favorite coffee or tea and you’re good to go.

Pinch pennies

We all have pennies lying around, taking up space in our purses and wallets. Put them to good use! Find pennies from each of your birth years, glue them around a picture frame, and use it to hold a picture of the two of you.

A rockin’ quilt

If you know how to sew, it’s easy to make a t-shirt quilt. Hit up secondhand stores for t-shirts of his favorite bands, cut the shirts into squares, and sew them together. Add a border and a back and you’re done! It will be a truly unique gift that doubles as something practical and decorative.†

Man food feast

Are you the chef in the family? Serve him a feast of “man food”: meat, potatoes, beer, and…well, that’s actually all you’re probably going to need. Whip up his favorite protein-laden, starchy meal and turn off the calorie counting app for the night. Don’t forget to finish off the meal with some chocolate-covered bacon!
