DIY Rustic Cake Stand

May 21, 2012 by Kimberly Jones

I love a DIY cake stand, and this rustic beauty from Wedding Paper Divas really caught my eye! With just 4 supplies and a simple tutorial you’ll be DIY-ing your own in no time!

A rustic cake stand can add a touch of elegance and natural charm to any dessert table. Whether you’re planning a rustic-themed wedding, a cozy farmhouse gathering, or simply want to showcase your baking creations in style, making your own DIY rustic cake stand can be a fun and rewarding project. Here are five creative ideas to help you craft a beautiful cake stand with a rustic flair:

1. Wood Slice Cake Stand

Materials Needed:

  • Large wood slice
  • Wooden candlestick or table leg
  • Wood glue
  • Screws

Instructions:

  1. Choose a sizable wood slice that will comfortably accommodate the size of your cake.
  2. Find a wooden candlestick or table leg that complements the rustic theme. This will serve as the stand’s base.
  3. Apply wood glue to the top of the candlestick or table leg and attach it to the center of the wood slice.
  4. Secure the pieces together by drilling screws through the top of the wood slice into the base.
  5. Allow the glue to dry completely before using your wood slice cake stand to display your cake or other desserts.

2. Vintage Plate Cake Stand

Materials Needed:

  • Vintage plate
  • Wooden candlestick or sturdy dowel
  • Epoxy adhesive

Instructions:

  1. Select a vintage plate with the design and size you prefer.
  2. Attach a wooden candlestick or a sturdy dowel to the center bottom of the plate using epoxy adhesive.
  3. Ensure the adhesive is dry and fully set before placing your cake on the stand.
  4. This elegant and unique cake stand will add a touch of nostalgia to your dessert display.

3. Galvanized Tub Cake Stand

Materials Needed:

  • Galvanized metal tub or bucket
  • Wooden board or round piece of wood
  • Screws

Instructions:

  1. Find a galvanized metal tub or bucket that suits the size of your cake.
  2. Place a wooden board or round piece of wood on top of the tub to create a flat surface.
  3. Secure the board in place by screwing it onto the top rim of the tub.
  4. Your galvanized tub cake stand is now ready to hold your cake, cupcakes, or other treats.

4. Log Slice and Branch Cake Stand

Materials Needed:

  • Large log slice
  • Thick tree branch
  • Saw
  • Wood glue
  • Screws

Instructions:

  1. Using a saw, cut a thick tree branch to the desired height for the cake stand.
  2. Attach the tree branch vertically to the center of the log slice using wood glue and screws.
  3. Make sure the tree branch is securely fastened to the log slice.
  4. This nature-inspired cake stand will infuse your dessert table with rustic charm.

5. Terracotta Pot Cake Stand

Materials Needed:

  • Large terracotta pot (with saucer)
  • Wooden round plaque or board
  • Wood glue
  • Screws

Instructions:

  1. Choose a large terracotta pot and its saucer. Make sure the saucer is slightly larger than the diameter of your cake.
  2. Apply wood glue to the bottom of the terracotta pot and place it upside-down on the wooden round plaque or board.
  3. Secure the pot in place by screwing it onto the wooden plaque from the bottom.
  4. Place the saucer on top of the pot to create a stable surface for your cake.
  5. Your terracotta pot cake stand will add a rustic and earthy touch to your dessert presentation.

Creating your own DIY rustic cake stand allows you to personalize your dessert table and showcase your baking skills in a unique and charming way. Choose the idea that resonates with your style, gather your materials, and enjoy the process of crafting a cake stand that adds a touch of rustic beauty to your special occasion.
