7 of the weirdest and craziest furniture pieces

October 27, by Vikram Goyal.

weird-furniture

Most of the mass-produced furniture items that people buy and use are made like any other products for the average John Doe. Since every consumer aims at the furniture items that suit their budget, some people want more than ordinary furniture. Luckily, there are interior designers who make beautiful and unique furniture, often on the verge of subversion. However, it is hard to find such pieces in common stores, which is why we have analyzed some of the most exciting unique pieces on the market.

Furniture animalia from Italia

If you are into a zoo-like living room, embellished with furniture pieces in the form of different animals, Tapezzeria Rocchetti from Rome is a perfect company for your taste. The mastermind behind this creative furniture workshop is Rodolfo Rocchetti. To comfort fighters for animal rights, you should know that all the pieces are made from fake fur.

Doze off in a bird nest

Created by two ambitious designers, Merav Eitan and Gaston Zahr, a bird nest is one of the latest furniture crazes. Exhibited at the Green Garden Exhibition in 2008, this crossover between a sofa, an ottoman and – don’t be caught by surprise – a nest made of a wooden frame and filled with cushions can serve as a bed or a sofa. All in all, it is a great item to take a rest on a Sunday afternoon, with your parrot napping on your shoulder.

Used cars as furniture items

Jake Chop Shop Company merges ecology and imagination in their furniture pieces made of old cars. It means that an old Mercury or a Cadillac do not have to be crushed into pieces, but they can be turned into a one-of-a-kind sofa or bed. The creator of these miraculous pieces is Jake Shelton from North Carolina, USA, an avid car lover, who is already working on new furniture models.

Yin finds yang – natural equilibrium

An astounding bed for couples in perfect natural balance is made by a witty Italian designer, Alessio Pappa. This simple structure resembling the yin-yang symbol is made of wood, joined together with bolts and enriched with cushions. Pappa, an authentic furniture designer, also makes other original and unusual furniture pieces, which you can see here.

Portable cardboard bed

Cardboard is not only a great insulator, but it can also be used to make a portable bed. The IT Design studio employees have created this item and named it the itbed. It can be folded and taken anywhere you want. This bed is a perfect item for students that move a lot or families, as a guest bed.

Old-school custom-made pieces

Chairs and armchairs can be found in all kinds of sizes, shapes and colors. However, their closest furniture relatives – stools – seem to have been neglected over the last couple of decades. Inspired by the perfect simplicity and usefulness of stools and similar traditional pieces, William Dangar launched a business that focused on creating new items that resemble the old-school ones. Among other products, his examples of designer timber furniture include Frankenstool.

Bed-way to heaven

A bed that climbs a wall does seem a bit Plant-ish/Page-ish (thus the subheading), but it is a great choice for small living rooms and narrow bedrooms. This beautifully antique bed is a perfect place to read classic novels.

As you can see, there are many incredibly fresh pieces of furniture out there, but they are not advertised in prime time TV-commercials. Take your time and do a thorough research on different hand-made furniture pieces. We hope our selection has helped you narrow down the choice and informed you about the craziest furniture items.
