7 Ideas For A Great Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

November 18, 2014 by Larissa Coleman

Hosting an Ugly Christmas Sweaters party is becoming more popular across the globe, and with these 7 ideas you can put together a fun sweater party before the craze of the Holidays begins.  Take a look through our list and maybe even put your own twist on some things.  Host a party that your friends will be talking about for quite a long time.

But first… what are how did ugly Christmas sweater trend start?

Ugly Christmas sweater trend

If you don’t already know it, the ugly Christmas sweaters are a type of sweater that typically feature a colorful, kitschy design with holiday-themed motifs such as reindeer, snowflakes, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, or other festive symbols. The sweaters often incorporate bright colors, sequins, pom-poms, and other embellishments to add to their tacky appeal.

These sweaters became popular in the 1980s as a way to celebrate the holiday season with a sense of humor and irreverence. They have since become a staple of holiday parties and events, with people often competing to see who can wear the most outlandish and over-the-top sweater.

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in ugly Christmas sweaters, with many retailers selling a wide variety of styles and designs. Some people even host ugly Christmas sweater parties (I guess that is why you are here!) where everyone is encouraged to wear their most outrageous holiday sweater.

Peak Ugly Christmas

The peak of the ugly Christmas sweater trend was around 2013-2014. During this time, it became increasingly popular to wear these sweaters to holiday parties and events, and retailers began selling a wide variety of styles and designs to meet the growing demand.

The trend was fueled in part by social media, with many people sharing photos of themselves in their festive and often ridiculous sweaters online. Additionally, celebrities and public figures began wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, further popularizing the trend.

While the trend has subsided somewhat in recent years, ugly Christmas sweaters still remain a popular and fun way to celebrate the holiday season with a sense of humor and whimsy.

Famous people who have worn Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Many famous people have embraced the ugly Christmas sweater trend. Here are a few examples:
