6 Ways To Brighten Your Candles For Spring

March 28, 2014 by Larissa Coleman

As the seasons change, so do the colors that we see around us. In the spring and summer months, vibrant shades of green, pink, and yellow seem to burst forth from every corner of the natural world, bringing a sense of joy and new beginnings. Similarly, the fall and winter months bring with them a rich palette of warm oranges, deep reds, and soothing blues that help us to settle in for a season of cozy comfort.

One great way to embrace these changing colors and bring a little extra warmth and beauty into your home is through the use of candles. Candles can be a fantastic way to create a welcoming atmosphere in any room, whether you’re looking to relax with a book, entertain friends and family, or simply enjoy some quiet time alone.

But why settle for plain white or unscented candles when you can easily add a little more color and personality to your space? With just a few simple steps, you can transform your candles from plain to eye-catching, adding a pop of color that will brighten up any room.

Some of the easiest ways to add color to your candles involve using materials that you may already have around your home. For example, you can easily upcycle old candles by melting them down and adding in bits of crayons or other colored wax to create a marbled effect. Alternatively, you could try painting your candles with acrylic or watercolor paints, adding brushstrokes or other designs for a truly unique look.

Other methods may require a bit more effort, but the results can be truly stunning. For example, you could try using tissue paper or colored wax paper to create a stained glass effect on your candles, or use a heat gun to melt layers of colored wax onto the surface of your candles, creating a textured, multi-dimensional effect.

Whatever method you choose, the key is to embrace the beauty and creativity that comes with adding a little extra color to your candles. Whether you’re looking to create a cozy atmosphere for yourself or share your love of colorful candles with friends and family, these simple tips are sure to brighten up your space and your mood. So why wait? Start exploring the world of colorful candles today!

Recycled Paper Cylinder Face Art – A Colorful Win for All Ages

I recently stumbled across this super creative project on Instructables – “Face With Recycled Paper Cylinders” – and I had to share it with you all because it’s just the kind of craft that checks all my favorite boxes: recycled materials, hands-on creativity, and fun for literally any age.

The idea is simple but genius—roll strips of recycled paper (think junk mail, old magazines, leftover printer paper) into cylinders, then arrange and glue them to form a unique abstract face. You can make it funky, realistic, Picasso-inspired—whatever your mood or style dictates!

What I really love is the blend of eco-conscious crafting with true artistic expression. This isn’t just another kids’ project—it’s something you could easily do with a group of little ones, a classroom full of teens, or even as an adult art therapy or weekend wind-down activity. It’s super relaxing and surprisingly satisfying seeing all those paper rolls come together to form something new and expressive.

The tutorial itself is easy to follow, with plenty of visuals to guide you along the way. You don’t need any fancy materials—just glue, paper, scissors, and a board or piece of cardboard to serve as your canvas.

I also appreciate how this project leaves so much room for personalization. Want to make it into a full face? Go for it. Prefer to focus on a single eye or mouth? Totally works. You can even play with color schemes by choosing papers with a certain palette, or painting over them once they’re rolled.

In short: this is a total keeper for anyone who loves crafting with purpose. It’s the kind of project that sparks creativity while gently reinforcing the idea that beautiful things can come from what we usually throw away.

Highly recommend giving it a go—solo or with a group. And if you try it, tag me or drop a pic—I’d love to see your recycled masterpiece!
