The House Gardener via weddings.craftgossip.com

Green plants offer a stylish and refreshing alternative to florals for wedding centerpieces. Today, I’m delighted to share with you some inspiring and gorgeous images from Isabelle Palmer’s latest book, The House Gardener. Whether you have a green thumb, limited space, or little knowledge of growing plants, this informative book will give you all the tools you need to incorporate a variety of beautiful plants into your wedding celebrations, as well as your home. As part of the blog tour for this lovely book, I’m thrilled to offer one of our readers a chance to win a copy of this book for your own! Simply leave a comment on this post before midnight CST on Thursday, April 17th, 2014 to be entered into the giveaway. In the meantime, here are 6 stylish and inspiring ideas from The House Gardener for using green plants as wedding centerpieces:

The House Gardener by Isabelle Palmer Cacti in Lanterns

For a bit of desert beauty, glossy green cacti in terra cotta pots look amazing in a variety of glass lanterns. Vintage medicine bottles add a splash of color and gravel provides a monochromatic base for the plants.

The House Gardener by Isabelle Palmer Tall Wine Glasses

Tall wine glasses create elegant terrariums when filled with brown bark, mossy green plants, purple passionflowers, and yellow bachelor buttons for a spark of color. Rustic terra-cotta pots and bottles with clean, simple shapes, make this arrangement versatile enough for a variety of wedding styles from classic to modern.

The House Gardener by Isabelle Palmer Neon Pots

I love the splash of neon orange paint around the brim of these zinc planters! The bright green succulents inside add a the perfect counterpoint and turn a simple arrangement into a fun and trendy centerpiece.

The House Gardner by Isabelle Palmer Light Bulb Vases

Old light bulbs repurposed as vases are perfect centerpieces for a modern wedding with retro or industrial flair! The light bulbs have a plumbing ring glued on the bottom for a base to make them more stable. Cuttings from the garden like these white lilac stems and white roses add some romance to the utilitarian feel of the bulbs.

The House Gardener by Isabelle Palmer Neon Frame with Air Plants

Even humble air plants look beautiful when paired with a bright pink frame! Air plants require very little water or care, and would be an easy-to-tend addition to wedding decor.

The House Gardener by Isabelle Palmer Wildflowers

Sprays of pastel wildflowers in vintage jars look so charming in a old wooden crate! The perfect centerpiece for a romantic summer wedding!

Stitch Your Favorite Fruit on a Sweater

The other day I saw a post from Pinterest about trends for summer and it said one of them was “cultivating whimsy.”

Well, I don’t know where Pinterest has been all this time, but we’ve been cultivating whimsy here at Craft Gossip for a long time. I love sharing projects that are a little different, things that make you smile when you see them, and will make you smile when you knit them and wear them or use them.

Such it is with the Tutti Frutti tee knitting pattern from Bea Creative Knits.

This cute little baby tee is worked top down in the round with contiguous shoulder construction to shape the sleeve caps. There are short rows for the neckline and folded hems with picot edging at the hemline, neckline and edges of the sleeves.

All of this would be great on its own, but then there’s the addition of a super cute fruit icon, which is added with duplicate stitch. There are a lot of options, including strawberry, banana, orange, cherries, watermelon, lemon, blueberries, kiwi, peach, dragon fruit, apple and pear, so it’s likely you can add on your favorite fruit.

It is offered in eight sizes, to fit a bust measurement ranging from 28-30 inches (71-76 cm) to 56-58 inches (142-147 cm). The design is meant to be worn with around 6.3 inches/16 cm of negative ease, but you can choose the fit you prefer. There’s also optional bust and waist shaping included in the pattern if you want to make it even curvier.

This is considered an advanced beginner or intermediate project because of all the skills involved, but it’s sure to be a lot of fun even if some of these techniques are new to you.
