20 Halloween Kids Crafts That Use Home Made Salt Dough

September 29, 2021 by Shellie Wilson

You may have noticed a change in how I write my roundups, I have started creating roundups based on materials used as well as theming them to holidays. As a parent or educator, I realize it allows you to buy in your supplies in bulk and be able to make multiple different activities from the one craft material. For this list of Halloween crafts, they are all made using salt dough. Salt dough is a great sensory medium too, I just love how the salt dough feels all squishy in my hands.

You do not need to make salt dough play complicated, you can create simple hangup Halloween trinkets for younger children using rolling pins (to flatten out the dough) and Halloween cookie cutters.  If painting is not an option then color your dough first with food coloring.

If you are looking for an airdrying clay as an alternative I highly recommend Das Airdrying white clay  I have been using it for over 30 years and it never fails me.

Before you begin, I suggest laying down some protection for your workspace, for this, I like to buy plastic party table cloths, often odd colors or off-season party table covers are on sale, You can buy them and tuck them away for future use. I have some Christmas party table cloths from last year that I managed to buy for 20cents.  They also make great drop cloths if you have a sick child.
