This darling scene card from Julie uses stamped characters that have been colored and closely fussy cut and placed over a stamped tree background. She used markers to color the background and stamps and create shading along with little die cut flowers for dimension. Take a closer look at the My Favorite Things blog.
I love making a scene, no, not throwing a tantrum but creating a scene on my cards! So, what’s a scene a card? It’s creating a little vignette with stamps or die cut images that usually has a foreground, background, focal “players” like people or animals and some dimension and that sets the scene. When designing your scene it’s easiest to think about working from back to front to layer the elements on top of each other, create the background, then adding center images and then what’s in the foreground. Today we’ll look at some amazing scene cards that use different techniques and products for some card inspiration.

Amy is the queen of scenes! Her scene cards are wonderful, with so much texture, dimension and layers. For this card she used a masking technique to layer all the different stamped images and then colored them with Copic markers, including adding texture to the rug and floral pattern on the chair. Watch her coloring video at A Thousand Sheets of Paper blog.
Tasha made a sweet mailbox scene with stamped mail boxes, fussy cut and placed over a stenciled cloudy sky with die cut grass. Framing a scene like she did, several times with cardstock, patterned and glitter papers, draws in the eye and creates the feeling of a framed work of art. Take a peek at the Art Impressions blog.
This fun red carpet scene from Crystal uses masked stamped images with the limo in the background, the girl walking and then the dog in front of her. She used markers to created the ground and red carpet, adding a starburst of stamped stars in the sky. Find more info at The Greeting Farm blog.
This adorable birthday card from Patricia has a stenciled cloud and pink sunburst background, die cut grassy hills and a stamped hippo from Whimsy Stamps. She filled the space in the sky with a fun die cut and stamped sentiment. I spotted this idea on her patricia_mimamahandmade Instagram page.
This terrific tulips card from Channin has so much depth using sky and flower stamps that work together to form a tunnel scene that’s so dynamic! She also included a sentiment and some fluttering butterflies. She breaks it all down at the Hero Arts blog.
I love this take on a scene card from Brenda! She used dies to create a window scene with dry embossed and die cut elements for a brick wall, shudders, window, flowers and curtains. A sweet stamped sentiment finishes off the design perfectly. Find all the details at the Honey Bee Stamps blog.
This darling card from Elise features bunnies enjoying a healthy smoothie from a cart. She used a stencil for the cloud background, added die cut grass and then the stamped, colored and die cut images. Also using the space in the “sky” to add a sentiment. Take a closer look at the Lawn Fawn blog.
For this touching scene card Julissa stamped the older couple in black ink and the younger couple in a lighter sepia tone for wonderful dimension. She also added shading in the grass and inking around the edges for extra depth. Learn more at the Unity Stamps blog.
I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so of course I’m in love with the new stamps and dies from Miss Ink inspired by the books and films! Kari created a magical card with the die cut Hogwarts in the background with the lake in front, a colorful ink blended sky and Hedwig flying off with a letter in the foreground. Find all the details at the Miss Ink Stamps blog.
Did you know you can do the no-line coloring technique with digital stamps? This sweet Spring scene card printed the stamps in draft mode for a light outline and then was water colored. It’s simple to add some green grass at their feet to turn it into a scene. I spotted this on the Polkadoodles Instagram page.
Justine created this fun farm card using Letter Pressing, which adds color and a bit of debossed texture too. This card has great dimension with the sky background, barn in the center and animals coming towards the front and notice how the rooster is sitting on the frame, that adds even more depth. Find the details on the Spellbinders blog.
I hope you’ve found some inspiration and ideas to give designing scene cards a try for yourself!
