The Candy Cottage is  a ready-to-decorate, no bake, reusable Gingerbread House and I was very excited at the chance to review it with my mother and kids. (Everyone wanted in on this review)

What is it? Basically a plastic reusable Gingerbread house frame that can be decorated for any holiday, event or occasion.

RRP$34.99 (remember it is reusable)

I don’t know how many times we have bought a gingerbread house at Christmas time only to eat the candy off the top and maybe a shingle or two off the roof.  Quite frankly no one in our house (except me) eats ginger so the thought of a ginge-rless Candy Cottage that we can all enjoy without the leftover soggy house sounds perfect to me.

We decided to go with an Easter theme and spent around  $20 on supplies. We could have spent much less but I was out-voted by a 2 year old and 4 year old who had candy on their minds.

Tip#1: Don’t try this in hot weather. Our icing was literally dripping off the house. Once we turned the A/C on we had greater success.

The house itself only takes a minute to put together. We took 1.5 hours to complete our house  as we were rushing and had 2 little assistants that kept eating the candy. If you have a few hours to dedicate to the house you could come up with something much more fantastic than we did. Just choose your candy and assistants wisely for the greatest success.

Tip#2: Have 2 bowls of candy one for the house and one for the kids or your supply will run short when your not watching.

Tip# 3 Let them enjoy, messy is ok, it’s all about  creativity and fun.

One very proud 4 year old.

For lots of different theme ideas check out the gallery on The Candy Cottage website.

This is such a great idea for kids with allergies too! My nephew is allergic to eggs and wheat, so decorating a house like this would normally be off limits! I think I’d have to do a Halloween theme and give it to him for his birthday!
