aeemble.jpg  Collage, Assemblage and Altered Art by Diane Maurer - Mathison

RRP $19.95 0823071138

Who would have thought that so many things could be altered, embellished and stuck together to make personalized pieces or art.  There are no instructions in this book but it is filled with ideas and inspirational pictures which act like a visual bible of creations to get you started.

The altered book section is my favourite with it’s tattered books and secret boxes that take me back to my childhood art projects, Where I would stick and glue things to grandma’s old readers digest books.

Thanks to Watson Guptill Publication you have the chance to get your hands on a copy of this book.

To win tell us what household item you would like to alter into an art piece by leaving a comment below.

This competition is open worldwide and closes on the 1st of July.

    Hi,
I didn’t need more than 2 seconds to answer your question: If I could, I would alter my kitchen sink! Not only it is so old and filled with cracks that some polymer, paint and “bling” will definitely give it a fresh new and original look, but it will also give me a great excuse not to do the dishes anymore. (-:
In other words it will alter my life as well!
    Have a great weekend,
    Tammy

I would like to alter my television into an art piece. I can picture it covered with all manner of oddball objects from thrift shops…and the picture tube (do they still have those?) removed to make room for a fabulous painting. Of course I’d still be able to watch the DVD of Project Runway on my computer, so it would be no loss as far as entertainment goes and a definite improvement as far as beauty goes.

I think assemblage is ripe for becoming an even more popular medium considering the state of the economy and quite a few artists’ desire to recycle the huge amount of “found objects” that are available.
